Reimagining the former chocolate shop as an engaging restaurant/lounge that preserves the century-old handcrafted tiles and showcases them for the enjoyment of the community.
A Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument that was modeled after a German beer hall in 1914, the Dutch Chocolate Factory Shoppe contains an enchanting installation of groined-vault ceilings and 21 custom tile relief wall murals depicting scenes of daily life in Holland by renowned Pasadena artist Ernest Batchelder. The project is a rehabilitation of the 4 story unreinforced masonry building, including a restaurant/bar on the ground floor and basement and conversion to creative office on the floors above.
